Warriors Men's Basketball Open Their Season With 20-Point Win Over Florida National

Winter Haven, FL – The Webber men's basketball team had five players reach double figures as The Warriors defeated Florida National 90-70 Saturday evening in their season opener. With the win, Webber improves to 1-0 on the season.

Eden Holt led all scorers with 26 points on shooting, going 10-19 in the paint.  K'Shun Stokes tallied his first double-double of the season, notching 22 points and 11 rebounds in the game. Tyrone Nesby IV tallied 19 points and five rebounds, while Orri Hilmarsson finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and one steal.  Cooper Peterson finished with 10 points.

Webber opened the game slowly, trailing the Conquistadores 2-0, before a jumper by Holt evened the score. The two switched scores before the Warriors then went on a five score run to take the lead 24-20. Scores from Eden and Nesby made it a quick 31-22, before a jumper from Stokes made it a nine point lead with over four minutes remaining in the half. Cooper Peterson checked into the game with three minutes left and went right to work, grabbing a steal in under a minute. A layup from Stokes sent the Warriors into the half ahead 39-31.

A three-point shot from Stokes opened the second half of play, before two made free throws by Nesby extended the lead to 13. A five-point run by Nesby kept the Warriors ahead through the second half. Hilmarsson got his first bite with a three-pointer five minutes into the half. The Warriors would then go on to keep the lead throughout the remainder of the game, giving Webber their first win of the season.

Webber finished the game with 15 assists and seven steals in the win.

The Warriors will return to court November 2nd and 3rd, when they travel to Montgomery, AL to compete in the SSAC/Sun Conference challenge. Webber is set to take on Brewton-Parker on the 2nd, tip off set for 3:00 PM. The Warriors will then face former SUNC foe, Thomas, on the 3rd at 5:00 PM.
