Miami Gardens, FL - The Webber International Women's Volleyball team traveled to Miami Gardens Thursday night to take on the Florida Memorial Lions in a rescheduled game from earlier in the season. After dropping the first set, the Warriors stormed back to defeat the Lions 3-1.Â
Andrea Padilla was the first Warrior to get on the board, as her service ace helped the Warriors tie the first set 3-3. The Lions then proceeded to go on an 8-1 run, taking the lead 11-4. Teodora Ranitovic, Jaizah Anderson, and Paysee Crow all picked up kills with a service ace from Nadia Reid to drop the deficit to three points,12-9. The Lions took another big lead, scoring seven of the next nine, with Tanasha Cooksey picking up a kill along the way, to bring the score to 19-11. Reid, Ranitovic, Cooksey, and Delanie Johnson all picked up kills along with errors from the Lions, but it was not enough as the Warriors dropped the first set 25-21.Â
Cintia Lorena got the Warriors started in the second set, picking up three kills to go with two from Reid, and Webber took a 5-4 lead. A Lions error as well as three kills from Ranitovic and one from Savanna Wilhite gave extended the Warrior lead to 10-6. Anderson, Lorena, and Reid proceeded to pick up kills, as well asa combination block from Lorena and Wilhite to keep Webber ahead 14-9. Reid, Anderson, Crow, and Lorena contributed kills along with errors from the Lions to give the Warriors the second set 25-18.Â
The third set started out similarly, as Anderson, Reid and Ranitovic picked up kills to tie the set 4-4 early. The Lions scored five of the next six to take a lead on the Warriors, with a kill from Ranitovic the only point segmenting the run. Anderson and Wilhite both picked up kills, with Bailey Berger and Crow both picking up service aces to tie the set 10-10. The Warriors took control after this, as Lorena picked up three kills and Lily Arnold picked up a service ace to extend the Warriors lead 16-14. Reid, Ranitovic, Anderson, and Wilhite added to the kill total, with Reid and Berger also adding services aces, to help the Warriors take set 3 25-19.Â
Anderson, Lorena, Reid, and Crow started the fourth set for the Warriors, helping to keep the set tied 5-5. A kill from Ranitovic coupled with three errors from the Lions gave Webber a tight 9-8 lead. Wilhite, Reid, and Lorena grabbed kills, with Reid and Ranitovic also combining for a block, to pad the Warriors lead 17-12. Another block from Reid and Ranitovic kept the Warriors ahead by five before the Lions started to close the gap, 18-17. Reid picked up another kill and Anderson scored a solo block, before two straight points for the Lions put the score at 20-19. Anderson and Berger picked up a kill apiece before the Lions immediately answered making the score 22-21. Kills from Crow, Anderson, and Lorena put an end to the Lions comeback bid as the Warriors took set 4 25-23, and the match 3-1.Â
Reid and Lorena led the Warriors with 13 kills apiece, while Reid also co-led the team in service aces, blocks, and digs. Crow smashed her old career high of 25 assists, picking up 48 in the win.Â
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday,October 28th when they host the Ave Maria Gyrenes for Senior Day.Â
