Lake Wales, FL – The Webber International Women's Volleyball team traveled across the Crooked Lake to take on rival Warner University. The Warriors were in control for much of the match, defeating the Royals 3-1.
Following a Warner error to start the match, Teodora Ranitovic added a kill and then a service ace to give the Warriors 3-2 advantage. Kills from Nadia Reid and Bailey Sikkema gave the Warriors another lead, before three straight points from the Royals gave Warner a 7-5 lead. A service error from Warner and a block from Jaizah Anderson and Ranitovic retied it at 7. The Warriors started to pull away from the Royals after this, as Sikkema and Ranitovic picked up kills. Delanie Johnson and Ranitovic also picked up a combo block to give the Warriors an 11-8 lead. Johnson, Paysee Crow, and Reid got a trio of kills to keep the Warriors ahead 14-10. After a Warner three-point swing, Webber went on an 11-1 run to end the set. This run featured six errors by the Royals, to go along with two kills from Rylee Bolser, a kill from Sikkema, a service ace from Ana Clara Araujo, and a service ace from Reid to end the set 25-14.
Sikkema, Bolser, and Reid came out of the break swinging, each picking up a kill to give the Warriors an early 3-1 lead. A kill from Cintia Lorena kept the Warriors in the lead with the score sitting at 5-4. The Royals took the lead after a three-point swing, and held on to a slim lead in spite of kills from Ranitovic and Sikkema, as well as a service ace from Andrea Padilla. Lorena picked up a solo block to keep the Warriors within one, 12-11. Anderson and Lorena were able to pick up kills soon after to give Webber the lead again 17-16, before separate three-point runs from both teams kept Webber in the lead following a kill from Ranitovic, 20-19. Warner would tie the set at 20, before a kill from Sikkema, a service ace from Padilla, an error by the Royals, and a kill from Lorena had the Warriors at set point 24-21. Warner got two points back before Reid put an exclamation point on the second set, helping the Warriors win 25-23.
Ranitovic started off the third set with yet another kill, before two errors from the Royals gave Webber another 3-1 lead. A kill from Sikkema and a service ace from Reid kept the Warriors ahead, but the Royals were able to tie it on three straight points, 6-6. The Warriors answered with four straight of their own, as Johnson picked up a kill to put the score at 10-6. The Royals responded by going on a 10-1 run, with Anderson picking up a kill to make the score 16-11. The Warriors responded with a seven-point run of their own as Savanna Wilhite, Reid, and Sikkema all picked up kills in addition to four Royal errors to give Webber an 18-16 advantage. Webber and Warner split the next six points with Sikkema and Bolser picking up kills to stay ahead 21-19. The Royals went on a five-point run to take a 24-21 lead. Johnson got a kill to give the Warriors another point before an error gave the Royals the third set 25-22.
The Warriors were down 8-5 early, with Johnson, Sikkema and Reid picking up kills. The Warriors proceeded to go on a nine-point run. Ranitovic and Johnson picked up two combo blocks, Johnson picked up two kills, Ranitovic picked up a kill, and Crow added a service ace to give the Warriors a 14-8 lead. Johnson grabbed two more kills to go along with a Royals error to extend the Warrior lead to 17-10. Nadia Reid picked up three straight kills to put the Warriors at 20, before four Warner errors and one more kill from Ranitovic gave the Warriors a 25-19 set 4 win and the match 3-1.
Sikkema led the team with 11 kills, while Reid had nine and Johnson had eight. Crow led with 24 assists, while Araujo added 14.
The Warriors will be back in action on Tuesday October 24th when they travel to Temple Terrace, Florida to take on the Florida College Falcons.
