Wandick's Double-Double Propels Warriors Past Royals

BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 19, 2023) - For the second time this season, the Webber International University women's basketball team matched up against their rivals, Warner University, this time on its home court. Dasia Wandick posted a stellar performance that helped fuel the Warriors to an upset victory over the Royals, 67-56.

It was a relatively low-scoring game, however, the Warriors (6-13 overall, 3-6 SUN) made the difference by forcing 20 turnovers and cashed in with 27 points off turnovers. They also outscored the Royals (14-7, 6-3) 32-12 in the paint and outrebounded the opposition heavily, 52-38.

The visiting Royals jumped out to an early 11-4 lead, but Webber grew into the game and a quick 8-0 run capped by an Alexandria Lemmon three, earned the Warriors their first lead of the game. Tied at 17 with just 14 seconds left in the quarter, Warner then sunk a last-second deep-ball to take a three-point lead heading into the second quarter.

Quarter number two was where the tide shifted heavily in favor of the Warriors as they tallied 21 points and limited the Royals to just seven points on 22.2 percent shooting. It was a slow start as the first basket did not come until two and a half minutes in. Trailing 27-23 with four and a half minutes remaining until half, the Warriors then went on a 15-0 run over the remainder of the quarter which saw Webber take a commanding 11-point lead at 38-27.

Warner bounced back coming out of the break as they slowly cut the lead down from 11 points to just four at 51-47 with a minute and a half left in the third. The Royals were unable to take the lead, however, as the Warriors extended their lead back to seven going into the fourth quarter.

Neither team did much scoring in the final quarter of play, but Webber did enough to extend its lead back to as many as 11. The Warriors saw out their victory and ended an eight-game winning streak of the Royals who are now fourth in The Sun Conference.

Wandick recorded her second double-double of the season as she led the team with a season-high 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds on the night. She also added a team-high five steals as well as contributing with five assists. Lemmon followed close behind with a total of 12 points, converting 50 percent of her shots from deep while tallying five rebounds and two steals.
