BABSON PARK, Fla (August 17, 2022) - The Webber International University women's volleyball team looks to improve on last season's finish heading into the new 2022 season under new Interim Head Coach
Allyson Moorman.
The Warriors finished last season seventh in The Sun Conference and were picked to finish the same in the Pre-Season Sun Conference Coaches' Poll. "It's about where we expected to be ranked," said first year coach
Allyson Moorman. "We didn't finish last year like we had hoped to and the girls are ready to prove everyone wrong."
Things won't be easy for the Warriors, as they open the season on Friday, August 19 with a match against two-time defending national champions, Missouri Baptist University. "We've got nothing to lose," said Moorman. "We embrace the underdog roll and look forward to battling the defending champs."
Moorman and the Warriors will look to their returners to set the tone. Junior outside hitters
Nadia Reid and
Bailey Sikkema along with senior setters
Amanda Vega and
Ana Clara Araujo return and will lead an improved offense. They will be joined by a couple of newcomers that Moorman says should make an immediate impact.
Junior libero
Bailey Berger and senior outside hitter
Cintia Lorena are expected to break into the rotation and contribute from day one. "
Bailey Berger is a great defensive player that gets to everything and 6'6"
Cintia Lorena will be a force on the outside," said Moorman. Lorena is a transfer from Columbia International University where she was an All-Conference player last year.
"We are a very deep team with a lot of experience," said Moorman. "We are very confident and look forward to a great season."
After a six-game road swing to open the season, the Warriors will open up at home in the Sabbagh Athletic Center on Monday, September 5 when they take on Trinity Baptist College at 5 p.m.
