BABSON PARK, Fla. (May 3, 2022) – The Webber International University softball team hosted No. 18 Southeastern University in a three-game series to end the regular season. The Warriors lost a tight 11-inning battle in game one before taking a walk-off win in game two and falling 8-5 in game three.

The Warriors (35-21 overall, 17-10 SUN) end the season third-place in the Sun Conference standings behind only No. 18 Southeastern (43-8, 23-4) and No. 12 Coastal Georgia (37-10, 19-8).

Game one of the series would prove to be a pitching duel between Webber's
Kayla Swinson and Southeastern's Claire Sekinger. Both would pitch all 11 innings of the game as Swinson would throw nearly 200 pitches, allowing five runs, only two of which were earned on seven hits, six walks and three strikeouts.

The Fire would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh before the Warriors would score in the bottom half to force extra innings. Southeastern would score a run in the eighth and ninth innings with the Warriors responding both times to keep the game going until the Fire would score in the 11th inning of play and hold Webber in the bottom half to take the win.

Morgan Mills would start on the mound in game two for the Warriors, allowing four runs on seven hits and picking up her sixth win of the season. Webber would trail the Fire 4-2 after five innings of play, however, a three-run bottom of the seventh would give the Warriors the walk-off victory. Back-to-back singles from
Kelsea Friend and
Abigail Thompson would drive in a run each to tie up the game before
Witney Bones would reach on an error by the third baseman that would score
Miranda Muriel to earn the victory.

In the final game of the series, the Warriors would start
Jenna Chaudoin. She would throw four innings allowing seven runs on seven hits before being relieved by
Megan Hoskins for the remaining three innings. The Fire would score one in the second and three in the third to take a 4-0 lead before the Warriors would pick up their first run in the fourth inning. A four-run top of the fifth for Southeastern would extend the lead to 8-1. Webber would fight to get back into the game, scoring four runs of their own in the bottom half of the fifth to make it a three-run deficit. However, the Fire would hold off the Warriors to earn the win in game three.

Brandy Barquin would lead the Warriors offensively, batting 5-for-8 (.625) with a double, an RBI, and a run scored throughout the series. She was followed by Thompson who ended 3-for-8 (.375) and Friend who was 4-for-11 (.364), both had an RBI and a run scored.
Mary-Margaret Maggard led the team with three RBI's and the only triple of the series.
Alycia Celia led the Warriors in runs scored on the weekend with three.

The Warriors will now look forward to the Sun Conference Tournament in Clearwater, Florida which begins on Thursday, May 5th, and concludes on Saturday, May 7th.
