Men's volleyball suffers defeat in tight five-set semifinal match

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (April 3, 2022) - After sweeping Thomas More University in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference tournament, the Webber International University men's volleyball team matched up against the Campbellsville University Tigers in the semifinals. It was a tight match that would go the distance, however, the Warriors would fall in the end, 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 15-13).

The Tigers (21-6 overall) outhit the Warriors (19-7) in hitting percentage .254-.193 in total for the match.

The Warriors started the game strong, winning the first set 25-18 to take an early 1-0 lead. Roughly halfway through set number two, Webber would hold a 15-13 lead before the Tigers would go on a 5-0 run to take the lead 18-15. The two teams would trade the lead several times towards the end of the set with Campbellsville holding a 24-23 advantage. The Warriors would score three-straight to capture the set 26-24 and take a commanding 2-0 lead. The third and fourth sets would prove to be very competitive with the Tigers holding off the Warriors in both to level the game at 2-2 and force a fifth set.

Webber would jump out to an early 5-1 lead in the fifth set, however, the Tigers would work back to tie the game at 7-7. A 5-3 run by Campbellsville would hand them an 12-10 lead in the set before kills from Chris Ludwig and Peyten Young would even the set at 12-12. The Tigers would then score two-straight to earn the 14-12 advantage. The Warriors would score once more before a kill from Campbellsville would earn them a place in the conference final.

The Warriors were led by Daniel Hermida who would finish with 16 kills, eight digs, and six aces. He was followed by Ludwig with 14 kills and seven digs and Gunter Perea Quevedo with 10 kills and a team-high seven total blocks. Samuel Pearish would lead the team in digs with 11 while Young had a team-high 42 assists.

Webber ended the season with an overall record of 19-8 overall and 13-4 in the Mid-South Conference.
