No. 25 Baseball downs No. 8 St. Thomas twice to win series

BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 25, 2022) – The Webber International University baseball team played back-to-back series against nationally-ranked opponents this past weekend as they hosted No. 8 St. Thomas University. The Warriors won the first two games of the series 6-0 and 8-7, before falling in game three, 13-3.

Dylan Martin would take the mound in game one for his 13th appearance of the season. Martin was lights out through seven innings as he gave up no runs and just four hits while striking out seven. Dawson Young would enter the game in relief for the final two innings, not allowing a single hit and striking out four of the six batters he faced.

The Warriors (35-15 overall, 10-10 SUN) would take an early 3-0 lead in the first inning after Tyren Milliner would hit a single up the middle that would score two runs. Angel Diaz would then hit an RBI single through the right side to bring home Milliner. An RBI single from Ian Kalman in the sixth inning would score Tavion Willams, extending the Webber lead. The Warriors would pick up two more in the seventh inning after the Bobcats (32-14, 12-9) would walk home a run followed by an infield single by Bryan Eusebio that would bring home another.

Milliner would lead the Warriors, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored followed by Kenny Rodriguez who was 1-for-4 with two runs scored. The only extra-base hit of the game would come through Drake Dobyanski after a triple with the first at-bat of the game for Webber. He would finish 1-for-4 with a run scored as well.

Xavier Rodriguez would start on the mound in game two. He would earn his seventh win of the season, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out seven through five innings of work. Rey Rodriguez would pitch two innings allowing three runs on one hit and two strikeouts before Young would pith the final two innings to earn the save after allowing no runs and just three hits, while striking out three as well.

An RBI double to left center field from K. Rodriguez followed by an RBI single from Luis Acevedo would earn the Warriors a 2-0 lead early on. A two-run home run in the top of the second would level the game for the Bobcats before they would score another run in the third to take the lead. A five-run bottom of the third from the Warriors, however, would regain the lead for the home team at 7-3. Webber would score three in the inning before a two-run homer to left field from Eusebio would round out the inning.

St. Thomas would add a run in the fourth inning to close the gap slightly. A double to right center field from Richard Rodriguez would score Eusebio and make it a four-run ball game yet again. The Bobcats would do their best to regain the lead, scoring three run in the bottom of inning number eight but the Warriors would hold on for the victory.

The Warriors were led offensively by Eusebio who ended the game 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI's and two runs scored. He was followed by Kalman who finished 2-for-4 and K. Rodriguez who was 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Game three would start off back-and-forth as both teams would put a run on the board through the first three innings as the game would be tied at three. In the top of the fourth, the Bobcats would score two on a double down the left field line. They would add three more in the fifth, one in the seventh, and four in the eighth to end the game after eight innings.
