LAKE WALES, Fla. – Webber International University baseball team matched up against the No. 15 Warner University Royals for the first time in conference play this season and came out victorious, 9-3. The Crooked Lake rivals faced each other earlier in the season in non-conference play two times with the both teams winning a game each.
Dylan Martin would start off the Warriors (32-13 overall, 7-8 SUN) on the mound pitching 6.1 innings; allowing three runs and striking out four. Rey Rodriguez and Dawson Young would finish out the rest of the game, striking out four and two respectively and allowing no runs.
The first two innings of the game were quiet until the Royals (33-11 overall, 9-7 SUN) would hit two solo home runs, earning them the lead, 2-0. However, the Warriors would even the playing field in the fourth inning after a two-RBI double from Ian Kalman. The Royals would then regain the lead in the fifth, but the Warriors would respond in the sixth inning with a three-RBI single to right field from Drake Dobyanski. The Warriors would score another three in the eighth inning when Kenny Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, allowing Kalman to score. Angel Diaz would reach on a fielder's choice, allowing for K. Rodriguez to score. To end off the eighth inning, K. Rodriguez would score on an RBI single to right center field from Acevedo. The Warriors would finish the game with an RBI single to left center from K. Rodriguez.
The Warriors were led by Kalman as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored, Acevedo would follow close behind ending 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Dobyanski led the Warriors in RBI's with three while Kalman and K. Rodriguez would follow behind with two each. Kalman, Acevedo, and Ri. Rodriguez would lead the Warriors in runs scored with two each followed by Dobyanski, K. Rodriguez, and Tavion Williams with one a piece.
The Warriors will continue their series across the lake with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
