Warriors fall to No. 1 Southeastern in series-opener, 8-3

BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 1, 2022) - The Webber International University baseball team played host to the No. 1 Southeastern University Fire to open a three-game Sun Conference series on Friday evening. The two teams traded blows until a four-run ninth inning from the Fire would earn them the victory in game number one.

Xavier Rodriguez would earn his 10th start of the season for the Warriors (30-10 overall, 5-5 SUN). In his seven innings of action, he would allow four runs, three of which were earned, on eight hits while racking up seven strikeouts. Thomas Lopez Jr. would enter the game in relief, pitching the final two innings. He allowed four runs on three hits and picked up two strikeouts.

Southeastern (33-1, 10-0) would score the first runs of the game in the top of the fourth that included an RBI-double to take a 2-0 lead. The Warriors would respond in the bottom half of the inning after a high fly ball by Chris Williams would carry over the left field wall for a two-run home run to tie the game up. The Fire would score a run in the top of the fifth to regain the lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, a single through the right side by Tommy Diaz would score Tyren Milliner to equalize the game yet again. Southeastern would score another run in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead. In the top of the ninth, the Fire would hit a three-run home run and a solo home run to add four insurance runs.

The Warriors were led by Williams who finished 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI's, and a run scored followed by T. Diaz who was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Milliner, Kenny Rodriguez, Ian Kalman and Bryan Eusebio all had a hit each as well.

The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
