Warriors come back from 2-0 deficit to defeat Royals in regular-season finale

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 25, 2022) - The Webber International University men's volleyball team hosted its Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University, in its regular-season finale as well as Senior Day on Friday night. The Warriors fell behind 2-0 before winning the final three sets to take a 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-11).

The Warriors (18-7 overall, 13-4 MSC) finished the match with a hitting percentage of .292 compared to the .181 percent of the Royals (11-6, 11-6). Webber also outhit its opposition 63-49 in total kills for the match.

Prior to the match, the Warriors honored their two seniors Chris Ludwig and Daniel Hermida 

The first two sets would both prove to be very competitive, however, the Warriors would fall 25-23 in both to fall behind 2-0 in the match. The Royals would hold a 13-11 lead in the third set before a 10-0 run from the Warriors would put themselves ahead 21-13. Webber would then see out the 25-16 victory to cut the deficit to 2-1. Tied at 15 in set number four, another run from the Warriors would earn them a 20-15 advantage. Able to hold off the Royals for the remainder of the set, Webber would take the 25-22 win, tying the match 2-2 and forcing a fifth set. In the final set, the Warriors would take an early 6-3 lead, however, Warner would battle back to within one point at 8-7 before a 4-0 run from the Warriors that included kills from Daniel Hermida and Tinaishe Ndavazocheva would earn them a 12-7 lead. Warner would attempt to get itself back in the match but another kill from Hermida would give Webber the 15-11 victory to end the match, 3-2.

The Warriors were led by Ndavazocheva with 21 kills while adding two total blocks followed by Hermida with 19 kills, four total blocks, and seven digs. Lachlan DIamond added eight kills and four total blocks while Ludwig led the team defensively with 13 digs and added six kills. Peyten Young would total 43 assists and 10 digs to earn his third double-double of the season.

Webber concludes the regular season with a record of 18-7 overall and 13-4 in the Mid-South Conference. The Mid-South Conference tournament will begin on Thursday, March 31, in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
