No. 8 men's lacrosse downs Madonna to win fourth-straight

LIVONIA, Mich. (March 20, 2022) - The Webber International University men's lacrosse team traveled to Madonna University for its second game in three days on Sunday afternoon. In the end, the Warriors earned the 14-8 victory and extended their winning streak to four games.

The Warriors (9-3 overall) and Crusaders (0-2) both had a total of 36 shots in the game and were also even with 14 ground balls each. Webber held an advantage from the spot, winning 13 of the 22 total face offs.

Dave Becker would score the first goal of the game less than two minutes in to get Webber on the board first. Two minutes after that, Chase Jackson would score a solo goal to give the Warriors an early 2-0 lead. Madonna would then score their first of the game before Jackson would strike again to regain the two goal advantage. With just over a minute remaining in the quarter, the Crusaders would score once again to cut the deficit to just one. Just 45 seconds into quarter number two, Madonna would score to knot the game up at 3-3. With just over seven minutes remaining in the half, the Warriors would then score three goals in a four minutes span to jump ahead 6-3. First a goal from Alexander Kew followed by Jonathan Schrager and Becker's second of the game. The Crusaders would score with a minute and a half to go before Becker would score on the cusp of halftime to earn his first hat-trick of the season.

There would be just three goals scored in the third quarter, the first being a man-up goal from Madonna. With six minutes left in the quarter, sophomore Jack Ostrander would score a man-down goal for his second of the season before a goal from Houston Finlayson assisted by Blake Nelson would give the Warriors a four-goal lead. Kew would score the first goal of the fourth quarter to put Webber up 10-5. Madonna would then score two goals just 12 seconds apart to cut the lead to just three. Kew would then earn his hat-trick via an assist from Jackson. The Warriors would then score two man-up goals, first from Becker and then from Alex West, to earn themselves a 13-7 lead. The Crusaders would score one last time before Jackson would score with eight seconds remaining to earn hat-trick number seven on the year.

Jackson and Becker both finished with a total of four points. Jackson ended with three goals and an assist while Becker netted a season-high four goals. Kew earned three points on three goals while Nelson finished with two assists followed by Dane Fasano with one. Hunter Scott led the team in ground balls with three while winning 11 of his 17 face off attempts from the spot. Schrager and Connor Herring both finished with two ground balls. Kew, Riley Roy, and Jarrett Monah all finished with one caused turnover each. Ayden Kulick spent the majority of the game in goal tallying 12 saves while Ryan Prylinski came in for almost two minutes and picked up a save as well.

Next up, the Warriors will travel to Howell, Michigan to face Cleary University in what will be the final non-conference matchup of the season on Monday, March 21, at 1 p.m.
