No. 15 Baseball downs Hastings College, 12-3

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 15, 2022) - The Webber International University baseball team hosted Hastings College in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon. It was a tight game until an eight-run bottom of the seventh fueled the Warriors to a 12-3 victory.

Jacob Burr would start on the mound for the Warriors (26-5 overall), not allowing a single run, just one hit and earning three strikeouts in his 3.0 innings pitched. Webber would then rotate in a different pitcher every inning for the six remaining innings. The seven pitchers combined would allow just three runs on nine hits.

The Warriors would get on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after a two-RBI single up the middle by Bryan Eusebio. Webber would hold a two-run lead until the fifth inning where it would extend its lead after a double to right field from Tyren Milliner would score Christian Martin to make it a 3-0 lead. Hastings (4-12) would pick up its first run of the game in the top of the sixth on an RBI-single. The next inning, the Broncos would score twice more on two more RBI-singles to level the game at 3-3. The Warriors would break the game open with an eight-run bottom of the seventh that started with an RBI-double from Kenny Rodriguez. The Broncos would walk two more runs home later in the inning before a sacrifice fly from Drake Dobyanski would bring home another. An RBI-double from Luis Acevedo and another base hit from K. Rodriguez would score two more to extend the Warriors lead to 11-3. One more run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI-single from MarkAntony Perez would give Webber a nine-run lead heading into the ninth inning.

K. Rodriguez led the team offensively, going 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI's and a run scored followed by C. Martin who was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored. Acevedo would end the day 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and a run scored while Angel Diaz was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Eusebio also finished second on the team in RBI's with two.

Next up, the Warriors return to Sun Conference play as they host Ave Maria University in a three-game series that begins on Friday, March 18, at 6 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 19, at 12 and 3 p.m.
