Women’s basketball extends win streak to eight games after downing Seahawks

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 3, 2022) – The Webber International University women's basketball team extended its win streak to eight games after a 59-53 victory over the visiting Keiser University Seahawks on Thursday evening.

The Warriors (17-4 overall, 9-2 SUN) fell in a tight game to the Seahawks (16-9, 7-6) earlier this season on the road, but were able to get their revenge this time around. Webber was quiet from three-point range but outscored Keiser 36-20 in points in the paint.

Webber held a 13-7 lead with two and a half minutes left in the first quarter, but the Seahawks would close the gap to just two points heading into the second quarter. Keiser picked it up offensively in the second quarter, shooting 47.1 percent while holding the Warriors to 31.6 percent shooting from the field. The Seahawks would take the lead late in the quarter and hold a three-point lead over the Warriors at 29-26.

It was a scrappy start to the second half as both teams would shoot under thirty percent from the field in the third quarter, however, the Warriors would cut the deficit to just one heading into quarter number four.

Eletra Graham would score six points in the fourth quarter, all from the free throw line, followed by LeAndra Franklin and Jaida Burgess each with five. The Warriors as a whole would shoot 46.2 percent in the fourth quarter to gain the lead and hold off the Seahawks and remain undefeated in 2022 thus far.

The Warriors were led offensively by Burgess with 13 points followed closely behind by Franklin with 12. Graham finished with nine points while Samantha Pacheco and Amaya Small each had eight. Small would lead the Warriors with 11 total rebounds followed by Dasia Wandick with nine.

Wandick also led the team defensively with four steals, followed by Franklin with three and Burgess and Rushell Jacob each with two.

The Warriors will now travel to The Furnace where they will take on the No. 2 Southeastern University Fire on Saturday, February 5, at 5 p.m. Southeastern defeated Webber earlier in the season inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center, 72-64, and will be looking for the regular-season sweep.
