Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Slow first half offensively dooms Warriors against visiting Keiser University

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 3, 2022) – The Webber International University men's basketball team hosted Keiser University on Thursday night inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. The Warriors would make a comeback effort in the second half, but it was too little too late as they suffered a 63-53 defeat to the Seahawks.

It was a tale of two halves as Webber (7-16 overall, 2-9 SUN) shot 29.6 percent from the field in the first half and then turned it around in the second half by shooting 54.2 percent in the second half. The Warriors only turned the ball over once more than Keiser (12-11, 6-7), but were outscored 21-12 in points off turnovers.

The Seahawks got out to an early lead which was fueled by the three-point game as they hit six of their attempted 16 shots from range in the first half. With just under six minutes to go, the Warriors trailed by three at 18-15. However, Keiser would go on a 15-2 run to end the half, giving them a 33-17 lead at the break.

Keiser would lead by as many as 24 points with just over 16 minutes left in the game. A 12-2 run from the Warriors over the next three minutes would cut the Seahawk-lead to 14. Another 10-2 run later in the half ending on a Benjamin Ross three-pointer, would bring the game within single digits at 54-45 with five and a half minutes remaining.

A three-point shot from Jaylon Myles would make it a six-point game with just over two and a half minutes remaining. After a Keiser-three at the opposite end of the floor, Myles would hit yet another three to make it a six-point deficit yet again. The Warriors would get the ball back but would miss the mark on another three-point attempt, forcing them to foul with time running out.

The Warriors were led by Myles who scored 20 points in total, 18 of which came in the second half. He was followed by Ross who scored a season-high 11 points on 57.1 percent shooting from the field. Chinecherem Anukaenyi led the team in rebounds with 13 rebounds to go with his six points and team-high three assists. Eddie Davis led the team with three steals followed by Myles with two.

Next up, the Warriors will travel to No. 18 Southeastern University, who they beat earlier in the season by a four-point margin. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 5 in Lakeland, Florida.
