Warriors unable to keep up with No. 1 Keiser Seahawks

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 14, 2022) - The Webber International University women's lacrosse team played in its second game in just three days, both against top-5 opposition as they hosted the No. 1 Keiser University Seahawks, resulting in an 18-4 defeat for the Warriors.

The Warriors (0-3 overall, 0-2 MSC) were heavily outshot by the Seahawks (1-0, 1-0) in the game, 36-10. Webber struggled with its clears, only successfully clearing eight of its 18 attempted clears.

Keiser would score just 21 seconds into the game, taking an early 1-0 lead.Three minutes later, the Warriors would level the score with an unassisted goal from Kaitlyn Patterson. The Seahawks would score four times over the next six minutes to gain a 5-1 advantage heading into the second quarter. Five and a half minutes into the second quarter, Webber would score again, this time from Samantha Esher, making it 5-2. However, Keiser kept up the offensive pressure and scored five-straight goals in a span of five and a half minutes. Another goal from Esher with 28 seconds left in the half would make it 10-3 before a goal from the Seahawks with one second remaining would give them an 11-3 lead at the halftime break. The Warriors would be held scoreless in the third quarter as Keiser would continue to extend its lead by five, starting the fourth quarter with a 16-3 lead. The final goal from the Warriors would come just over three minutes into the fourth quarter as Esher would score her third goal, earning her first collegiate hat-trick.

Esher led the team with five total shots, followed closely behind by Patterson with four shots. Reyanna Troupe led the team with five ground balls followed by Jordyn Davidson with four and Patterson with three. Defensively, Courtnie Couch finished with two caused turnovers.

Davidson spent the majority of time in goal, collecting six saves while Hannah Register spent just over 17 minutes in goal and made two saves as well.

The Warriors now have a nine-day break before they host Ave Maria University in another Mid-South Conference matchup on Wednesday, February 24th, at 4 p.m.
