Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's volleyball defeats Midway in three sets to win eighth straight

WALESKA, Ga. (February 13, 2022) - The Webber International University men's volleyball team completed its Mid-South Conference pod at Reinhardt University on Saturday afternoon after sweeping Midway University 3-0 (30-28, 25-22, 28-26).

The Warriors (9-3 overall, 4-0 MSC) outhit the Eagles (5-2, 2-2) in terms of kills 44-38 as well as hitting percentage with Webber hitting .214 percent compared to .139 percent. Webber also had seven aces and eight total blocks in the match.

Despite the game ending in a sweep, the sets were long and tightly contested throughout the course of the match. Tied at 23 in the first set, the two teams would trade points back-and-forth until the score was 28-28. A kill from Andrea Di Paola and an attack error from the Eagles would give the Warriors the win in the first set. Once again tied late in the second set at 18-18, the Warriors would then go on a 4-0 run that included kills from Chris Ludwig, Kajus Mazuronis, Cesar Remedios as well as an ace from Mazuronis to take a 22-18 lead. That run would give Webber the advantage it needed to see out the victory in set two and take a commanding 2-0 lead. Webber would have the advantage late in set three at 24-22, however, a 3-0 run from the Eagles would put them on the back foot, down 25-24. After trading points, Midway would remain with the advantage at 26-25, before a kill from Ludwig, and attack error from the Eagles, and finally an ace from Peyten Young would earn the Warriors the victory.

Webber was led by Ludwig who finished with a team-high 14 kills and 12 digs, good for his third double-double so far this season. He was followed behind by Tinaishe Ndavazocheva with nine kills and a season-high eight total blocks. Young earned his second double-double in a row, tallying 41 assists and 10 digs. Kevin McCarthy had four kills and three total blocks on the day as well.

"This was a great stepping stone for the team with a very good indicator of where we stand against a top team in the conference and a key victory," said Head Coach Carlos Jimenez. "It also gave us the chance to run some variations within our playing positions for game readiness for our non-starters."

Next up, the Warriors will now travel to Warner University to face their Crooked Lake rivals for the first time this season on Friday, February 18th, at 7 p.m.
