WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (November 9, 2022) - After defeating Thomas University, 2-0, in the quarterfinal match, the Webber International University men's soccer team matched up against No. 8 Keiser University in the semifinal of The Sun Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors were unable to cope with the offensive prowess of the Seahawks as they fell, 5-2.
Both sides had a similar number of scoring opportunities with Keiser (11-1-2 overall) having the slight edge in total shots 17-15. However, both teams had an even amount of shots on goal with nine.
The Warriors (10-4-1) had the first shot of the match just over two minutes in. Keiser, however, had the majority of possession and pressured the Webber goal early on. It did not take long for the Seahawks to get their breakthrough as they found the back of the net in 13th minute and then again just seven minutes later, earning them an early 2-0 lead.
Keiser added a third to extend the lead yet further in the 40th minute, earning a comfortable 3-0 lead at the halftime break. The Warriors looked much more threatening offensively in the second half and scored their first goal after several attempts on the Seahawks' goal through
Marc Bonafe in the 77th minute. Keiser responded by scoring goals in the 83rd and 88th minutes to put the game beyond all doubt. Bonafe scored a second in the 89th minute on an assist by
Leonardo Torcigliani to make it 5-2 at full time.
Bonafe's two goals sees him leap-frog
Luke Piveral in the goal-scoring charts, making him the second-highest scorer with eight. He is also second in total goal contributions with 11, behind only
Joseph O'Sullivan with 10 goals and three assists for a total of 13 goal contributions.
The loss brings the Warriors' historic season to an end as they finish with a total overall record of 10-4-1.
