Men's Basketball Cruises to Season-Opening Win

TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. (October 29, 2022) - The Webber International University men's basketball team opened its 2022-2023 campaign with a matchup against Toccoa Falls College on Friday night. After a little bit of a slow start, the Warriors found their groove and busted the game open for a 94-63 victory.

The Warriors (1-0 overall) displayed their offense ability, shooting 52.4% from the field and a very impressive 59.3% from three-point range. Webber forced the Screaming Eagles (0-1) into 12 total turnovers and capitalized with 16 points off turnovers.

Five minutes into the first half, the Warriors found themselves with the early lead, 15-10. They held that lead until three-straight three-pointer's from Toccoa Falls earned it the lead 32-28. A 12-1 run by the Warriors over the next four minutes that included a three-point play from Eddie Davis followed by back-to-back-to-back three's saw them retake the lead at 40-33. Webber would never relinquish that lead for the remainder of the game. The Warriors held a 12-point lead at 46-34 at the halftime break.

The momentum that Webber carried into halftime continued into the second half as it started off on a 15-5 run, extending the lead to 22 points. The Warriors slowly began building upon that lead as the half progressed, led by transfer-guard Orri Hilmarsson who scored 15 points in the second half alone. Webber went on to lead by as many as 35 with four minutes left in the game en route to its season-opening victory.

The Warriors were led by Hilmarsson, scoring 18 points in 18 minutes on 75% shooting from three. He was followed by K'Shun Stokes with 17 points and seven rebounds and Gabriel Divic with 15. Divic converted five of his eight attempted three pointers. Tiyon Martin led the team with two steals and tied for the most assists with Gavin Buchanon each with three. Jordan Golden finished with a game-high 12 rebounds while Jorge Oliva and Chinecherem Anukaenyi each had six.
