BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 22, 2022) - The Webber International University women's volleyball team matched up against the Seahawks of Keiser University inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center on Saturday morning. After taking a 2-0 lead, the Warriors would be unable to hold off a comeback effort from the Seahawks who won the next three to take the victory 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-7).
Despite finishing with 10 less kills than the Seahawks (27-7 overall, 7-4 SUN), the Warriors (13-11, 3-6) outnumbered their opponent 10-7 in service aces and 11-1 in blocks.
The Warriors fell behind in the first set, 10-6, before scoring six-straight points to take a 12-10 lead. Tied at 13, an 11-5 run by Webber handed it the set advantage 24-18. Keiser scored twice more before the Warriors scored to take a 1-0 lead.
Roughly halfway through the second set, tied at 12, Webber went on a 6-2 run to jump out in front 18-14. The Seahawks then scored three in a row to pull back within one but the Warriors did enough to hold off Keiser and earn a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Webber trailed early on in the third set but battled back to tie the set at 13. The set continued in back and forth fashion as the two sides matched each other tying at 16, 18, and 20 before a 5-1 run by the Seahawks earned them their first set victory, cutting the deficit in half.
Keiser would again take an early 7-3 lead before a 7-1 run from the Warriors gave them a two-point lead. After trading blows back and forth, Webber still held its lead at 16-13. However, four-straight points from the Seahawks earned them a one-point lead and forced Webber to take a timeout. A 6-2 run by the Warriors earned them a three-point lead at 22-19 as they looked to be in control. The momentum would shift yet again as Keiser tied the set at 23 before forcing overtime and eventually taking the victory to force a fifth set.
Tied at four to begin the final set, the Seahawks scored four-straight points to take a 8-4 lead. The Warriors were unable to get their offense going again as Keiser went on a 7-3 run to end the set and complete the comeback.
Cintia Lorena led the Warriors offensively with 16 kills on .324 percent hitting, matching her season high. She was followed by
Alexis Turner with 10 kills and
Bailey Sikkema and Savannah Wilhite each with nine. Wilhite led the team in hitting percentage for the match at .353 percent. Setters
Amanda Vega and

Leading the team in digs, however, was

Teodora Ranitovic continued to show her defensive ability, racking up a team-high seven total blocks. She was followed by Wilhite with four and Lorena and Turner each with three.
The Warriors will be back in action on Sunday for their second match in as many days as they host the St. Thomas University Bobcats at 1 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
