MIAMI, Fla. (October 11, 2022) - The Sun Conference has announced its Players of the Week based on performances from October 3rd to October 9th. Following football's 34-24 upset victory over Southeastern University, quarterback
Cody Braden was named Offensive Player of the Week and defensive back
Jamon Jones was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Braden led the Warriors offense in the victory over the Fire, completing 15 of his 21 passes for a season-high 218 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns were completed to senior wide receiver
Jacob Moss for plays of 70 and 29 yards. The other was a short red-zone touchdown pass to tight end
Tyler Romano for his first receiving touchdown of his career. It is Braden's first conference Player of the Week award of the season and the third of his career.
"Cody is one of the most hardworking players on our team", said Head Coach
Eric Potochney. "He has really developed into a great leader and is a key component in our program. He is a dynamic player both running and throwing and his ability to manage our offense and make plays when needed was the key to our success moving the ball Saturday."
Jones was a leader in the Warriors' secondary, helping to lock down the Southeastern passing game. He was one of four Warriors to gather an interception, however, he was able to return his 66 yards the other way for a pick six. It was a key play that extended Webber's lead to 28-7 at the time. Jones also tallied two tackles and a pass breakup as well.
"Jamon is a very smart and instinctive player for us", Coach Potochney said of Jones. "We challenge him on a weekly basis to match up on the best wide receiver we play against. He has a great understanding and awareness of our coverages and how he fits into our defensive schemes. He was able to make some key plays in the game Saturday to give us an opportunity to win."
The Warriors return home for three-straight home games beginning with Ave Maria University on Saturday, October 15th at 1:30 p.m.
