BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 6, 2022) – The Webber International University women's basketball team hosted College of Coastal Georgia to start the new year, earning a 77-62 victory in Sun Conference action.

The Webber (11-4 overall, 3-2 SUN) defense was swarming, forcing the Mariners (4-11, 0-6) into 25 turnovers and capitalizing with 27 points off turnovers. The two teams were level in terms of rebounds for the game, however, the Warriors collected three more offensive rebounds and outscored the opponent 15-8 in second chance points.

Coastal Georgia started the game strong offensively in the first half, shooting 47.1 percent in the first quarter and improving yet further by shooting 50 percent in the second quarter. The Mariners led for the majority of the first half, until a three-point shot from
Alexandria Lemmon tied the game at 30 with three and a half minutes remaining in the first half.
Dasia Wandick would connect on a three-pointer with 13 seconds left in the half to give Webber a 37-36 lead at the break.

The Mariners would start the third quarter on a 10-2 run in the first three minutes and 17 seconds but would not score for the remainder of the quarter as the Warriors would continue on a 15-0 run to end the quarter. Webber limited the Mariners to just 18.8 percent shooting from the field in the quarter and took an eight-point lead heading into the final quarter. The Warriors would maintain their tempo in the final quarter, extending the lead by seven and seeing out the 15-point victory.

Leading the Warriors was
LeAndra Franklin with 16 points, six assists, and five rebounds. She was followed by Wandick with 11 and
Amaya Small with 10.
Samantha Pacheco led the team with a game-high seven assists. Wandick also led the team eight rebounds while Small and
Rushell Jacob each finished with seven.

The Warriors have just a one-day break as they will travel to Thomasville, Georgia to face the Thomas University Night Hawks on Saturday, January 8, at 2 p.m.
