BABSON PARK, Fla. (August 24, 2021) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team swept the Conquistadors of Florida National University, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-12), on Tuesday afternoon inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
The win for Webber (3-3 overall) over FNU (0-4) improves its all-time record against the Conquistadors to 8-1 overall, including 5-0 in home matches.
The Warriors hit an outstanding .413 percent on the match compared to FNU's .124 percent. In total, Webber only made six errors while FNU finished the match with 24.
Webber was led offensively by
Bailey Sikkema who had a total of 10 kills, followed
Tanasha Cooksey,
Nadia Reid and
Emily Bowen all with seven and
Savanna Wilhite with five. Cooksey and
Ana Clara Araujo both hit a perfect 1.000 percent while three others hit over .300.
Dishing out the sets for the Warriors would be
Amanda Vega with 20 assists and Araujo with 11. Defensively, Wilhite led the team with five total blocks while Sikkema led the team with nine digs and was one dig away from getting her second double-double of the season.
Late in the first set, Webber would hold a 22-19 lead before FNU would close the gap to 22-21. From there, the Warriors would score three straight points including two kills from Araujo and Reid to close out set number one.
The Warriors led late in the second set by four points at 21-17 before scoring three straight to make it match-point at 24-17. Florida National would fight back with three straight points of their own to make it 24-20, but Webber would finish off the set with a kill by Sikkema.
Webber would start the third set even stronger as it started on a 5-0 run. The closest the Conquistadors would come in the set would be 8-5 before the Warriors would go on a seven-point run to jump out to a 15-5 lead en route to winning the set 25-12.
