BABSON PARK, Fla. (July 19, 2021) – Webber International University is proud to announce that
Trevor Robinson of the Warriors' men's soccer and Esports teams has been selected by The Sun Conference as the league's male nominee for the A.O. Duer Scholarship Award, which recognizes academic and athletic excellence by a junior student-athlete. Robinson is the conference selection and now is nominated for the award at the NAIA national level.
In addition to being a strong defender (starting center back in the Spring) on the Warriors' men's soccer team, Robinson was a key member of Webber's inaugural Rocket League Esports team that won four games in its first season. Robinson, who has registered a 4.0 GPA in Computer Information Systems at Webber, is also a student worker in the Warriors' sports information office, helping out the athletic department by dedicating his time enhancing the overall Webber brand.
"There are always players that stand out for many different reasons such as their attitude, determination, leadership, and technical ability," Webber Head Coach
Neil Cockburn said. "
Trevor Robinson stood out to have all these attributes and is the reason he is one of the best players on my team. His leadership on and off the field is the reason I can see him as my future captain. Trevor also has great character, and led several fundraising projects to improve facilities for our soccer program."
This nomination at The Sun Conference level sends Robinson onto the NAIA national competition for the Duer Award. Robinson now will wait to see who the NAIA National Selection Committee picks as the national winner in mid-September.
This is the third straight year Webber International University has had at least one student-athlete nominated by The Sun Conference for the A.O. Duer Scholar Award. In 2018-19, Jordon Murrell was the conference's male nominee, and in 2019-20, Jessica Terry was the female nominee.
