AVE MARIA, Fla. (April 7, 2021) – Playing on the road for only the second time in its inaugural season, the Webber International University women's lacrosse team fell 14-1 against nationally-recognized Ave Maria University during the Gyrenes' Senior Day.
It was the second loss this season for Webber (0-5 overall, 0-5 Mid-South Conference) against Ave Maria (2-4, 2-3).
Webber trailed 2-0 one minute and 10 seconds into the game and then trailed 4-0 less than three minutes in. It was then 5-0 less than five minutes in and 6-0 less than 10 minutes in.
At halftime, Webber trailed 12-0 but had three shots from
Maria Horrell, two from
Natalie Bartek and
Kaitlyn Patterson, and one from
Shannon Parker.
However, to start the second half, Webber scored first as
Megan Dennis put one into the back of the net 1:10 in for a man-down goal.
At one point in the second half, the Warriors had to play down five players before the game was ultimately ended with 11:23 left on the clock.
Charlee Lutton and Bartek both finished with two groundballs,
Daiana Casula and Lutton both had two caused turnovers, and Bartek had two draw controls.
Goalkeeper
Ashley Bosch would finish with 10 saves, giving her three games with double-digit saves in five games total so far this season.
Next week, the Warriors' final game of the regular season will be at No. 7 Life University at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14. Then, the Mid-South Conference Tournament is set for April 22-24 in Williamsburg, Kentucky, as the Warriors will meet up with the winner of the MSC North Division.
