Men’s volleyball rolls past Truett-McConnell in 2021 home opener

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 4, 2021) – The 2021 home opener for the Webber International University men's volleyball team finished with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-9) sweep for the Warriors over Truett-McConnell University on Thursday night inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

With the win, Webber improved to 5-6 overall on the season and got back to .500 in Mid-South Conference play at 3-3. Truett-McConnell, which is competing in its inaugural season, fell to 0-7 both overall and in the conference, and has now not won a set in 21 sets so far this season.

The Warriors hit .500 in the opening set while holding Truett-McConnell to only one kill and a -.300 hitting percentage.

Justin Beecher recorded 32 assists, Chris Ludwig led the team with eight kills and six digs, and Daniel Hermida led with four services aces and three blocks.

Ludwig added a .500 attack percentage while Hermida hit .625 percent with six kills and five digs.

Zachary Ayala added six kills, Luis Gustavo Silva had five kills and a .375 attack percentage, and Kai Desauguste had five digs and four kills on four attempts, good for an attack percentage of 1.000.

Next up, the Warriors will try to improve to 2-0 at home and get back above .500 in conference play as they host sister-school St. Andrews University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. Then on Thursday, March 11, Webber will host No. 13 Life University in what will be the second matchup this season between the Warriors and the Running Eagles.
