No. 25 Warriors finish off March with nonconference split against No. 12 Bobcats

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 30, 2021) – The final two games of the month of March for the No. 25-nationally ranked Webber International University baseball team were a 2-1 win followed by an 11-5 loss against No. 12 St. Thomas University.

In game one, Webber's starting pitcher, Dylan Martin (3-2), gave up only three hits, one run and no earned runs through six innings. Rey Rodriguez then finished off the final inning for his fourth save of the season.

Offensively, the Warriors got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fourth inning as Dominique Collie Jr. led off with a walk, stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout and then scored on a wild pitch. That was followed up by a two-out single to left field by Victor Florentino, who on the next at bat scored on a triple to right center field by Steven Lugo.

In game two, the Warriors fell behind 9-0 after a seven-run top of the third inning for St. Thomas.

After loading the bases with nobody out, Webber did get back to within four of the Bobcats at 9-5 with a three-run fifth inning, but a pop out to third base left a runner on third, and then the Warriors went down 1-2-3 in the sixth and seventh innings.

After finishing with two of Webber's four stolen bases in game one, Norberto Navarro finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored in game two while Rougie Odor was a combined 4-for-7 between the two games.

In what began as a battle of two 21-win teams, Webber's record moved to 22-15 overall while St. Thomas' moved to 22-13.

Next up, the Warriors will kick off the month of April and Easter weekend by starting off its Sun Conference series at home against rival Warner University at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 1. Then on Saturday, April 3, the Warriors and the Royals will play a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on the Heart of Florida Baseball Field.
