Women’s lacrosse falls at home against No. 2 Keiser

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 18, 2021) – The Webber International University women's lacrosse team returned to action for the first time in nearly a month, but fell at home against the No. 2 nationally-ranked team in all of the NAIA, Keiser University, by a final score of 25-3.

It was the first game since February 20 for Webber (0-3 overall, 0-3 Mid-South Conference), was the Warriors' second of three straight home games, and was their second game against Keiser (7-0, 3-0) in their first three games of their inaugural season.

Webber trailed 3-0 less than five minutes into the game, 5-0 less than 10 minutes in and 7-0 12 minutes in before Kaitlyn Patterson scored for the Warriors to make it 7-1 with 17 minutes on the clock in the first half.

With nine minutes left in the game, Megan Dennis won the draw control and went downfield to score in only five seconds to make it 21-3.

Webber did finish with a season-high 19 groundballs and had five caused turnovers and 11 draw controls. Patterson had five of those draw controls and added three groundballs.

Making her debut in goal during the first half was Natalie Bartek, who ultimately finished with nine saves in 43 minutes.

The Warriors are now halfway through their inaugural schedule, but still have two games against nationally-recognized Ave Maria University followed by the regular-season finale at No. 7 Life University still to go. In fact, each of Webber's six games in its inaugural campaign will be against either nationally-ranked teams or teams receiving votes in the NAIA Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Poll.

Next up in exactly one week will be Webber's 2021 home finale as the Warriors host the Gyrenes of Ave Maria at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 25. Ave Maria is the top team in the receiving votes category in the latest edition of the national poll.
