Second-half comeback fuels Warriors over Brewton-Parker, 66-64

LAKELAND, Fla. (December 14, 2021) – The Webber International University men's basketball team played in its second game in as many days, this time facing Brewton-Parker College at Southeastern University. The Warriors trailed early but a second-half comeback earned them a 66-64 victory over the Barons.

The win for the Warriors (5-10) puts an end to a three-game losing streak in which two of those losses were by just three points. The loss for Brewton-Parker (1-14) extends their losing-streak to nine games.

The Warriors were held to a field goal percentage of just 32 in the first half. Meanwhile, the Barons shot nearly 47 percent, propelling them to a 10-point halftime lead at 33-23.

Roughly six and a half minutes into the second half, Brewton-Parker led by 15 points. Over the next six minutes, Webber would go on a 15-3 run to cut the deficit to just three points at 52-49 with 7:49 left on the clock. After a seven-point run from Brewton-Parker, the Warriors responded with a 10-point run, ending with a Justin Boyd three-pointer, to level the game at 59 with just over four minutes remaining.

The teams would trade baskets and the game would yet again be tied, this time at 64 with 50 seconds left. A layup from Jordan Golden off of a pass from Terrence Lakes with 36 seconds to go, would put Webber back in front, 66-64. A shot from the Barons with seven seconds left would be blocked by Chinecherem Anukaenyi and a last second shot would be unsuccessful, sealing the win for the Warriors.

Boyd led the Warriors with 11 points, all of which came in the second half. Lakes also finished with 11 points and led the team in assists with five. Anukaenyi had 10 points as well as five rebounds and two blocks in total. Following Golden's double-double performance from yesterday's game against Grace, he came close to another after finishing with nine points and a game-high nine rebounds.

The Warriors now travel to Jacksonville, Florida to face another Division-I team in an exhibition game against Jacksonville University on Saturday, December 18, at 4 p.m.
