WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (November 9, 2021) – After defeating Warner and advancing through the quarterfinal round of The Sun Conference tournament, the Webber International University men's soccer team were tasked with battling the No. 6 nationally-ranked Keiser Seahawks. The semifinal match ended 3-0 in favor of the Seahawks on Tuesday afternoon.
The Seahawks (11-2-1 overall) offense proved to be too much for the Warriors (9-6-2) as they were outshot 23-7 in the match.
It would not take long for Keiser to get on the board as after just three minutes, a cross would be fired into the box from out wide and buried by Alexander Steen to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. Roughly two minutes later, a corner for Webber would lead to a
Leonardo Torcigliani headed effort, forcing a save out of the keeper. There would be more opportunities from both sides in the half, but none that would bear any fruit as it would remain 1-0 at halftime.
Keiser would start the second half strong, just as they started the first. After just 46 seconds, a shot from 18-yards out by Elias Jassim would find the back of the net, doubling the Seahawk lead. In the 68th minute, Keiser would score yet again after a give-and-go just inside the box and a simple finish from Lucca Carvalho would end any thoughts of a comeback.
"The boys played great, we knew playing one of the top teams in the country was going to be tough", said Head Coach
Neil Cockburn. "We were a little intimidated in the beginning which lead to an early goal for them, however, the boys were incredible in the last 20 minutes."
The Warriors season ends as a carbon copy of the 2020 season, defeating Warner in the quarterfinals of The Sun Conference tournament and hen falling at the hands of the Keiser Seahawks in the semifinal round. It is the second year in a row that the Warriors have not only made it to the conference tournament, but made it to the semifinals as well.
