BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 13, 2021) – The Webber International University football team hosted its Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University, for its Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors were victorious over the Royals, 72-28, in their regular-season finale.
Â
The Warrior's (2-8 overall, 1-5 MSC) offense was dominant, finishing with 709 yards of total offense compared to Warner's (3-8, 1-5) 400 yards. The yardage was split nearly even, with 364 yards coming from the run game and 345 yards through the air.
Â
The Royals would find the endzone first just three minutes into the game, but the Warriors would respond and take that lead after two touchdown rushes from
Maynard Blackmon. The first of which was a one-yard rush followed by a 39-yard scamper on the very next drive.
Â
Warner would get the ball back and on its second play, throw an interception to
Devonte Harris who would return it 42 yards the other direction to put Webber up 20-7. The Royals fired back on their next drive with a 42-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to six.
Â
However, the second quarter is where the Warriors would begin to pull away. First,
Austin Smith would convert a 24-yard field goal and quarterback
Cody Braden would proceed to toss three more touchdowns before halftime. The first of which was a 63-yard touchdown pass to
Kenneth Davis, then a 40-yard touchdown pass to senior
Freddie Hughley, followed by an 8-yard touchdown pass to
Jacob Moss. Webber would reach the halftime break leading 43-14.
Â
The Royals would reach the endzone once in each of the final two quarters but it would not be enough as the Warriors kept on rolling, scoring 29 more points. The big plays continued for Webber as
Tremon Bright would score on a 65-yard rush and then Braden would throw another 62-yard touchdown pass to Moss later in the third quarter.
Â
Taylor Scarbrough would break free on a 70-yard touchdown rush followed by another touchdown rush from Bright for 12 yards to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
Â
Braden set season-highs in passing yards, touchdowns, and a longest completion (63). Braden was 13-22 for 345 yards and four touchdowns.
