Women’s basketball at No. 16 Southeastern named TSC Game of the Week

LAKELAND Fla. (January 8, 2021) – For the third time this season but for the first time on the road, the Webber International University women's basketball team will participate in The Sun Conference Women's Basketball Game of the Week. The Warriors are set to take on No. 16 Southeastern University at 2 p.m. inside The Furnace in Lakeland, Florida, tomorrow on Saturday, January 9.

The Warriors are currently 9-3 overall and 5-2 in The Sun Conference while Southeastern is 9-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference with eight straight wins under its belt. Additionally, something will have to break on Saturday as Webber is 6-0 on the road so far in 2020-21 while the Fire are 6-0 at home.

Last year, the Warriors defeated the Fire, who were ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division-II at the time, by a final score of 91-83 in overtime during The Sun Conference Tournament semifinals, ending Southeastern's 25-game winning streak overall and breaking its 78-game winning streak against Sun Conference opponents.

This time around, Webber will enter the matchup with the Fire ranked second in the conference in scoring defense per game (61.83) and third in scoring offense per game (71.42). Webber is also second in field goal percentage offense (.407 percent) and is third in field goal percentage defense (.372 percent) while Southeastern ranks first in scoring defense per game (55.91), first in field goal percentage offense (.440 percent), first in field goal percentage defense (.336 percent) and second in scoring offense per game (74.64).

Individually, senior Paris Copeland leads the Warriors in scoring and is second in The Sun Conference at 17.33 points per game while senior LeAndra Franklin leads the conference in both assists per game (5.67) and steals per game (4.08). Additionally, junior Amaya Small is third in the conference in blocks per game (1.08).
