BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 7, 2021) – The Webber International University women's basketball team fell for the second time at home this season against St. Thomas University, this time losing by a score of 77-71 in a matchup featuring the two teams tied for second place in The Sun Conference standings on Thursday evening inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
The Warriors led by as much as seven points in the first quarter at 13-6 after a jumper by
Eletra Graham with three minutes left in the period, and then led by one (13-12) at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, St. Thomas led by seven twice before Webber again finished the period up one, this time at 29-28.
Webber was outscored by St. Thomas 29-19 in a third quarter in which the Bobcats shot 64.29 percent (9-14) from the field and were 5-of-9 (55.56 percent) from three.
In the final quarter, another jumper by Graham got Webber to within two at 59-57 with six and a half minutes left, but the Bobcats responded with a 13-2 run to jump ahead by 13 at 72-59 with only 2:15 remaining.
A 9-0 Warrior run featuring five points by
Paris Copeland and four from
LeAndra Franklin made it 72-68 with only 49 seconds left. Lastly, a 3-pointer by Graham with only 10 seconds to go made it a four-point margin again at 75-71 before the Bobcats sank two more free throws to finish the final 26 seconds of the game 5-for-6 from the line.
"We just did not execute enough in the first three quarters of the game, and that is what hurt us in the end," spoke Webber's Head Coach

Four Warriors finished in double figures in scoring as
Dasia Wandick led the way with 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 shooting from three.
Copeland scored 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field and 5-for-5 shooting from the free throw line while also adding five assists, Franklin had 14 points on 6-for-7 free throw shooting while also finishing with seven assists, and Graham matched Franklin with 14 points.
Erica Foote scored six points and led the Warriors in rebounds with eight, a new career-high in both categories for the junior from Fernandina Beach, Florida.
It was the end of Webber's four-game winning streak as the Warriors fell to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in The Sun Conference while St. Thomas improved to 9-1 and 6-1 with what was its fourth win in a row.
It will not get any easier for Webber as next up, the Warriors will get a chance to prove themselves against the first-place team in The Sun Conference, No. 16 nationally-ranked Southeastern University. Game time is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, inside The Furnace in Lakeland, Florida.
