Women’s soccer falls in close match at rival Warner

BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 26, 2020) – Playing on the road in Sun Conference action for the second straight match, the Webber International University women's soccer team was defeated 2-1 by its Crooked Lake rival Warner University on Saturday night at Royals Field.

After Dayne Ford drove into the box to draw the foul, Webber (1-2 overall, 0-2 The Sun Conference) tied the match at 1-1 in the 38th minute thanks to a penalty kick from senior Angelina Conde. Unfortunately, Warner (3-1, 1-1) went back up by one five minutes before halftime after the second goal of the opening 45 minutes by Maddie Manzke.

Charlee Lutton led Webber with two shot attempts, one of which was on goal, while the Warriors' other attempts came from Conde, Leah Borders, Ford and Deborah Guillen.

All but one of Webber's shot attempts were on goal as both teams finished with five shots on goal.

Lutton's shot that was saved less than five minutes into the second half would prove to be the only shot of the period for the Warriors.

Goalkeeper Cameron Laine played all 90 minutes in front of the net and finished with three saves.

It will not get any easier for the Warriors as next up, Webber will host No. 4 nationally-ranked Southeastern University at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30. It will be the first Sun Conference match at home so far in 2020 for the Warriors.
