WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (September 19, 2020) – The first road game of the 2020 season for the Webber International University football team was a very tough contest against the No. 9-ranked team in the NAIA and defending Mid-South Conference Sun Division Champion, Keiser University, and in the end, the Warriors fell to the Seahawks by a final score of 52-7 on Saturday night in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Seahawks put up two touchdowns in the each of the first three quarters as the Warriors found themselves behind 28-0 at halftime after a 65-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, and then Webber was down 42-0 before finally getting on the scoreboard in the third quarter with a 25-yard touchdown run by
Tino Hunt.
In the end, Keiser scored twice in every quarter after starting the fourth quarter with a 37-yard field goal and then adding another touchdown just before the two-minute mark in the contest.
Hunt finished with 62 rushing yards on only 10 attempts, good for an average of 6.2 yards per carry, while
Sinica Sigler added 52 yards on 14 attempts (3.7 yards per carry average) and
Tremon Bright had 35 yards on nine attempts (3.9 yards per carry average).
Interestingly enough, Webber did win the time of possession battle by over 11 minutes.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Trent Peacock led the way with 11 total tackles, and was followed by
Joseph Burton and
Alondre Smith each with seven tackles, and
Colton Cormier and
Danterius Ghant both with six. Additionally,
Caden Borders recorded his first career interception.
It was the final nonconference game of the season for both teams against a fellow Mid-South Conference Sun Division opponent as Webber fell to 0-2 and Keiser improved to 2-0. In fact, the Seahawks have now won 10 straight regular-season games after going undefeated before the postseason last year while Webber has now lost during each of its last six outings dating back to last season.
The next game for the Warriors will mark the start of official MSC Sun Division play as the Webber hosts Florida Memorial University at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, on the Warrior Turf Field. The Lions are bringing back football to FMU for the first time in 62 years, and are coming off of a 62-0 defeat against Keiser last week.
