Warrior men’s, women’s tennis pick up first victories of the season

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 6, 2020) – The Webber International University men's and women's tennis teams won 5-2 and 6-1 respectively over NCAA Division-III Regis College on Friday. The Warriors won each of the top four singles matches on the men's side while winning each of the top five singles matches on the women's side, including a third-set super tiebreaker in the No. 5 singles spot.

  • On the same day as winning his first career doubles match at Webber, Cyrille de Hollain also earned his first singles win as a Warrior, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
  • Ivan Bondarenko won by the same score of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to improve to 4-4 overall on the season.
  • Matthew Alexander won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for his second singles win of the year.
  • Last but not least, Marc Schneider won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to earn his second win in three matches.
 
  • With its first win of the year, Webber men's tennis is now 1-8 overall while Regis men's tennis is now also 1-8.

  • Isabelle Niehoff won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to earn her third singles win of the year and second in a row.
  • Svenja Koenig won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for her second win of the season so far.
  • Jenna Fosdick dominated her No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-0 to improve to .500 in singles action at 5-5.
  • Lily-Rose Rochat was victorious 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot for her third singles win in a row.
  • At No. 5 singles, Esmeralda Fernandez earned her first singles win of the season with a comeback effort in the third-set super tiebreaker, taking the match 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) overall.
  • At No. 6 singles, Megan Warner played in her first official regular-season match as a Warrior tennis player after transitioning over from soccer. Warner fell 6-1, 6-1 but put up a spirited effort.
 
  • With its first win of the season as well, Webber women's tennis improved to 1-9 while Regis women's tennis dropped to 11-6.
 
Next Up: The Warriors will host West Chester University of Pennsylvania tomorrow morning on Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m. on the Webber Campus Tennis Courts.
