BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 15, 2020) – The Webber International University men's volleyball team improved to 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference following a very hard fought 3-1 (26-28, 25-20, 25-23, 28-26) victory over Midway University during the final match of the Webber POD Tournament on Saturday.
Daniel Hermida recorded 16 kills with six digs, four service aces and three blocks while
Orlando Fletcher had his best match of the season with a career-high 13 kills and a season-best three blocks to go along with his first two service aces of the year.
Justin Beecher added a season-high six kills and had three blocks while freshman
Bryant Herrera had a career-high six kills and matched his career-high with a match-high six blocks.
The fifth Warrior with three blocks or more was
Christopher Rivera.
Lastly,
Tim Rouch Jr. led the Warriors with 18 assists and
Kyle Robertson added 14 while in the digs category,
Christian Alvarez-Rivero had seven and
Steven Bartlett finished with five.
All four sets were brutally close throughout as neither team led by more than three points in the first set, and that theme continued into the second set until the end when the Warriors came from down one at 20-19 to win it with a 6-0 run. In the third set, Webber again trailed late, this time at 22-20 before coming back to close out the set on a 5-1 run and steal the 2-1 set advantage.
With the win, the Warriors improved to 6-1 overall on the season and 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference as Webber is off to its best start since becoming an official NAIA varsity men's volleyball program in 2018.
Next up, the Warriors will now continue their stretch of six straight conference matches as Webber and Warner University meet up for the first time during regular-season action so far this season. The Warriors and the Royals will square off inside the Turner Athletic Center in Lake Wales, Florida, beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19.
