BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 3, 2020) – Coming off its first conference win of the season only three days prior, the Webber International University men's basketball team won its third game in a row with a 67-54 victory over St. Thomas University on Thursday night inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
It was a rematch of The Sun Conference quarterfinal matchup between Webber (5-5 overall, 2-2 TSC) and St. Thomas (3-3, 2-2) from last season when the Bobcats defeated the Warriors 94-67 in Miami Gardens, Florida. It was also the first conference win at home so far in 2020-21 for the Warriors.

Gabriel Rutledge spoke after the game, saying, "I am extremely proud of the way that we started the game, with good intensity on both sides of the ball. We faced some adversity in the first half, but did a great job of responding and playing our brand of basketball. I appreciate the support of all of the fans, faculty and cheerleaders tonight. They did a great job helping us bring the energy throughout the game. We will continue to work hard, and we hope to sure up our defense. I am looking forward to continuing to impose our style of basketball at Florida Memorial this weekend. Go Warriors."
In the first half, the Warriors jumped out to a 16-4 lead six minutes in and then went up by as much as 19 points at 28-9 with 8:50 to go before halftime.
Webber then maintained a double-digit lead until the Bobcats got to within eight at 42-34 two minutes into the second half.
St. Thomas then got to within five points of the Warriors three times, with the final occurrence coming at 49-44 with 10:34 left to play before Webber scored nine straight to go back ahead by 14 at 58-44 with seven minutes remaining. The Warriors' lead would never go under 10 points from that point on.
The Warriors held the Bobcats to only 30 percent (9-30) shooting in the second half and only a 7.69 percent (1-13) mark from 3-point range over the final 20 minutes. For the game, Webber limited St. Thomas to only 10.5 percent (2-19) shooting from three to go along with forcing 23 turnovers and outscoring the Bobcats 33-16 in points off turnovers and 32-26 in points in the paint.
Jaylon Myles led both teams in scoring with 27 points on 10-for-18 shooting from the field. He also added six rebounds and was 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
The only other Warrior in double figures in scoring was
Rasheem Etienne, who scored 14 points and was 7-for-8 from the free throw line.
Kris Goettert also added seven points and seven rebounds,
George Davey had six points, and
Loro Natana had six rebounds.
In two days, Webber will look to keep its winning streak alive when the Warriors travel South to Miami Gardens, Florida, to battle Florida Memorial University. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 5.
