Men’s basketball unable to keep up with NCAA Division-I FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 18, 2020) – The Webber International University men's basketball team ended its only exhibition game of the 2020-21 season with a 112-39 defeat at NCAA Division-I Florida Gulf Coast University on Friday night inside Alico Arena.

Webber trailed 14-0 before getting on the board four and a half minutes into the game on a layup by George Davey.

Midway through the first half, the Warriors then trailed 29-7 before their first 3-pointer of the game, which came from Marcus Massey, made it 29-10 with 9:37 to go before halftime. Webber already had nine turnovers to that point while allowing FGCU to shoot 73 percent (11-15) from the field compared to only 19 percent shooting (3-16) itself.

Webber then trailed by 26 at 41-15 before a layup by Kris Goettert with five minutes left before the break, and then it was a 31-point game at halftime at 52-21.

FGCU shot 57 percent (20-35) from the field in the first half while Webber shot 28 percent (8-29), had 14 turnovers, and was being outscored 15-3 in points off those turnovers.

Webber will now return home to Babson Park, Florida, for its third home game of the week, and its third game overall in only three days. The Warriors will host Ecclesia College starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
