MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 21, 2020) – The 2020 Webber International University football season came to an end on Saturday as the Warriors traveled to Miami Gardens, Florida, and fell to St. Thomas University by a score of 31-13 at Monsignor Edward Pace High School.
It was a good start by the Webber defense, which stopped St. Thomas on fourth down in Webber territory on the first drive of the game.
Then, after a bad snap on a punt attempt on the Warriors' first possession set the Bobcats up at Webber's own 13-yard line,
Jamon Jones forced a fumble that was recovered by the Warriors' defense at the two-yard line to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard in the first quarter.
However, after a 63-yard punt by senior
Joe Ebel on Webber's next possession pinned St. Thomas to within its own five-yard line, the Bobcats proceeded to march down the field with a huge 18-play, 96-yard touchdown drive spanning nearly eight minutes.
Down 14-0 midway through the second quarter, Webber got on the scoreboard thanks to a 16-yard run by
Tremon Bright, which capped off a quick three-play, 75-yard drive that featured 46 yards on the ground by Bright.
Bright then added another touchdown in the final 30 seconds of the game, scoring from one yard out to wrap up a 15-play, 68-yard drive that featured 44 more yards on the ground by Bright.
In the end, Bright finished with 136 rushing yards on 27 attempts, good for an average of exactly five yards per carry. He also caught six passes for 23 yards, giving him a grand total of 159 combined yards. It was Bright's second straight game with over 100 rushing yards while the two touchdowns, 27 rushing attempts, six catches and 23 receiving yards were all new career-highs for the junior from DeLand, Florida.
Bright accounted for 159 of Webber's 175 total yards of offense as a team.
The Warrior defense was led once again by
Colton Cormier, who finished with 14 total tackles, nine solo tackles, two tackles for a loss of five yards, and an interception while leading the team in tackles for the third game in a row to close out the season.
Trent Peacock was next with eight tackles while
Chandler Kerr added six tackles and one tackle for loss, and Jones had five tackles.
Webber finished its 2020 season 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-South Conference Sun Division while St. Thomas improved to above .500 both overall (4-3) and in the division (3-2) with three straight wins to close out its season. It was also the end of Webber's fourth season in the MSC Sun Division as the Warriors' lone win on the year was a 56-7 victory over Florida Memorial University back on September 26 during the third game of the season.
