MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (October 7, 2020) – The Webber International University women's soccer team took a break from conference play to travel north to Georgia for a nonconference match at Brewton-Parker College, and in the end, the Warriors tied the Barons by a final score of 1-1 after two scoreless overtime periods on Wednesday.
Despite being outshot 10-2 in the first half, it was Webber who led 1-0 at the break thanks to a penalty kick goal in the 37th minute by
Malia Domingo.
Brewton-Parker, however, answered with the equalizer less than one minute into the second half.
In the first overtime period, Webber held a 3-2 shot advantage before being outshot 5-3 in the second overtime.
Domingo and
Deborah Guillen led Webber with four shots, two of which were on goal, while
Leah Borders and
Dayne Ford both added three total shots with two attempts on goal. The Warriors' other shot on the afternoon came from
Da'Carrah Odom.
Goalkeeper
Natalie Bartek finished with a career-high 14 saves and played all 110 minutes in goal, which was her third consecutive match playing every minute for the Warriors.
With the tie, Webber is now 2-3-1 overall on the season while Brewton-Parker moved to 0-0-1 after playing in what was its 2020 season opener.
Webber will now return to Sun Conference action on Saturday, October 10, as the Warriors host Ave Maria University at 2 p.m. as a part of Webber's Homecoming Weekend.
