Women’s soccer edges rival Warner in overtime

LAKE WALES, Fla. (September 10, 2019) – The Webber International University women's soccer team defeated Crooked Lake rival Warner University 3-2 in overtime during a nonconference matchup on Tuesday night at Royals Field to improve to 3-0 so far in 2019.

Webber women's soccer has now started 3-0 or better in two of its last three seasons, but the win over Warner (0-4) was also good for the first win for the Warriors over the Royals so far under second-year Head Coach Brian Fallon. It was also the second overtime win for Webber so far in 2019.

The match-winning goal for Webber came less than six minutes into the overtime period on an assist from Hannah Vigotty to Angelina Conde, who snuck in between a Royals' defender and the goalkeeper, avoided the ensuing collision and scored the empty net goal behind the defense.

It was the first goal of the season for Conde, a senior from Brandon, Florida, and was the third of her career, while the assist for Vigotty was the second of her career as a sophomore.

Earlier in the match, the Warriors actually led until late in both halves during regulation.

After Webber scored first on an unassisted goal by senior Megan Warner in the 33rd minute, her fourth goal of the year in three regular-season matches, the Royals found the equalizer with less than five minutes left before halftime.

Then, the Warriors responded less than two minutes into the second half when Warner assisted on a sweet goal by Kelcee Jackson, who scored from about 18 yards out to the upper left hand corner for her second goal as a freshman.

Unfortunately, Warner again tied the match with a late goal, this time with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.

Despite the two goals given up, the Warrior defense played a great match and nearly executed the game plan perfectly if not for two mistakes that resulted in opportunistic goals by the Royals.

Freshman goalkeeper Cameron Laine got the start and made three saves in the first half before giving up one goal, but it was fellow-freshman Natalie Bartek who earned the win and improved her record to 2-0 with one save and one goal allowed over the final 51 minutes.

Next up, the Warriors will play in their second exhibition match of the 2019 season, a meeting at ASA College Miami at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, before taking the pitch for their first regular-season match at Warrior Field on Monday, September 23, against Florida College at 2 p.m.
