BABSON PARK, Fla. (August 30, 2019) – In its second matchup against a team receiving votes in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 poll in two home matches so far this year, the Webber International University women's volleyball team fell again in three sets, this time falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15) on Friday inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
The match was a part of the Webber/Warner Classic, a tournament co-hosted by both Webber and its Crooked Lake rival Warner University. The rest of the tournament, set to be played on Saturday, August 31, was canceled due to the potential incoming of Hurricane Dorian in the central Florida area.
In the match against Reinhardt, Webber was paced by
Gilmary Ramos filling in as the libero and collecting 12 digs,
Kalameli Matautia with eight kills, and
Laura Embry with eight assists.
"We are continuously working on our offensive and defensive play," said Head Coach
Gretchen Hand. "We have been working on new line ups and I am encouraged by how we are improving."
Webber fell to 3-3 overall on the young season while Reinhardt, after also winning earlier in the day 3-0 against the College of Coastal Georgia in a match played across the lake at Warner, improved to 5-1 overall.
The next time the Warriors take the court, if weather permitted by the incoming Hurricane, will be Webber's 2019 Sun Conference Opener on the road at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. That match will be played at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11.
