Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s volleyball swept by nationally-recognized St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. (March 22, 2019) – One day after earning the season sweep over Brewton-Parker College, the Webber International University men's volleyball team had the same thing happen to itself as the Warriors fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) on Friday night against St. Andrews University, a team now receiving votes in the NAIA Men's Volleyball Coaches' Top 10 Poll.

Similarly to the first meeting between Webber and St. Andrews back in Babson Park, Florida, on February 22, the Warriors were competitive in all three sets but could not get over the hump.

This time around, Justin Beecher dished out 16 assists while Luke Taffer recorded nine kills and Steven Bartlett had eight digs.

In the first set where St. Andrews hit .409 percent, Webber rallied from down six at 19-13 and got to within one point of the Knights at 20-19 thanks to a 6-1 run.

In the third set, Webber was close again in the latter stages only trailing by two at 20-18 before a 4-0 run for St. Andrews all but put the match away.

Webber fell to 6-10 overall on the season and 5-7 in the Mid-South Conference while St. Andrews, the last unbeaten team in MSC play, improved to 14-5 and 10-0.

The Warriors now only have one match remaining in their regular season as Webber hosts Crooked Lake rival Warner University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. The first ever Mid-South Conference Men's Volleyball Tournament will be held from Thursday, April 4, until Saturday, April 6, in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
