Men’s volleyball dominates Brewton-Parker

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 2, 2019) – The Webber International University men's volleyball team swept Brewton-Parker College (25-11, 25-14, 25-14) on Saturday afternoon inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center to get back to .500 in the Mid-South Conference.

Webber improved to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the Mid-South Conference while Brewton-Parker fell to 2-10 and 0-6.

Webber hit .463 percent for the match with percentages of .640 percent in the opening set and .435 percent in the second, all while Brewton-Parker hit -.028 percent overall with negative hitting percentages in both the second and third sets.

Webber won each of the first two sets on kills by Liam Gilchrist, and then the Warriors won the final set on back-to-back kills by Luke Taffer and Justin Beecher.

Taffer recorded a match-high 12 kills with a great attack percentage of .611 percent. Somehow, Zachary Ayala hit even better at .800 percent with nine kills on 10 attempts. Beecher added four kills with a .333 attack percentage, Gilchrist also had four kills with a .300 attack percentage, and Tyler Massey had three kills with a .500 attack percentage.

Dishing the passes to the Warriors' attackers were Kyle Robertson with a match-high 19 helpers, followed by Beecher with seven assists, Tim Rouch Jr. with six and Steven Bartlett with five.

Defensively, Bartlett recorded a match-high 19 digs; and Gilchrist, Pedro Lepever and Beecher each recorded three blocks.

Next up, Webber will compete in the Cumberland University Quad Match with matches at 10 a.m. Central Standard Time against Midway University and at 4 p.m. against Campbellsville University on Friday, March 8, and then the Warriors will battle the host school Cumberland at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.
