Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors doubled up by No. 2 Southeastern during Silent Night Game

LAKELAND, Fla. (December 5, 2019) – Newcomer Amaya Lasley scored a career-high 17 points against the No. 2-ranked team in NAIA Division-II women's basketball, but in the end, Webber International University fell 97-48 at Southeastern University on Thursday evening inside the Furnace in Lakeland, Florida.

It was a Silent Night game for Southeastern as the home crowd was held silent until the Fire reached the 10-point mark five and a half minutes into the game and led 10-6.

Before that, the score was 6-6 as sophomore Taniya Patrick already had all six of the Warriors' points through the first four minutes of the game.

Unfortunately, the first half ended with SEU on a 15-4 run to lead 21-10, and then it was 32-10 three and a half minutes into the second quarter before a layup by another sophomore, Lasley, ended the Warriors' scoring drought and stopped the 11-0 start to the quarter by the Fire.

At halftime, Lasley and Patrick combined for 21 of the Warriors' 23 points as Lasley already had a career-high 13 points while Patrick had eight points and four rebounds.

In the end, Lasley finished with 10 more points than her previous season-high of seven points.

Patrick finished with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds, Emmarrie Carmen had six points, and LeAndra Franklin had four steals and three assists.

Making her season debut in this one was junior Paris Copeland, a native of Lakeland, Florida, who finished with four points.

As a team, Southeastern entered the game first in NAIA Division-II in two defensive categories, scoring defense per game (48.9) and field goal percentage defense (30%), and that theme certainly continued on Thursday night.

With the loss, Webber fell to below .500 overall on the season at 4-5 and dropped to 1-3 in The Sun Conference while Southeastern improved to 9-2 and 4-0 with its eighth victory in a row. Both of Southeastern's losses so far this season have come against top-four nationally-ranked teams in the NAIA Division-II National Coaches' Poll. Additionally, the Fire have now won nine straight games against the Warriors dating back to the 2015-16 season.

Next up, Webber will try to get back to .500 on the season as the Warriors host Ave Maria University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center in Babson Park, Florida.
