Down six at halftime at 40-36 and then down by nine at 49-40 with six and half minutes left in the third quarter, the Warriors were able to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter after winning the third 16-12 and holding FMU to only 25 percent (4-16) shooting overall and only 14.3 percent (1-7) shooting from three in the frame.
It was a 12-3 run for Webber to close the third quarter, but then in the final quarter, the game stayed within one possession until the 5:22 mark when a 3-pointer by the Lions gave the visiting team a 61-55 advantage.
The Lions increased their lead to eight at 63-55 with 4:20 left and then led by nine at 67-58 with 2:40 left after two more free throws.
A layup by Carmen followed by a layup by Franklin got the Warriors back to within five at 67-62 with 1:42 remaining, and then after an FMU free throw, a jumper by Franklin at the one-minute mark followed by a layup by Patrick with 49 seconds to go made it only a two-point game at 68-66.
From there, the Lions went 1-for-2 from the foul line with 41 seconds left, but a turnover by Webber led to two more free throws by FMU with 24 seconds left to make it a five-point margin at 71-66.
Webber then missed two 3-point attempts in the final 21 seconds as FMU held on for the win.
"Our defensive execution late in the game let us down tonight," said Head Women's Basketball Coach
Grady Morrell. "We just couldn't stop the dribble penetration, and we also gave up too many points in the paint."
In all, there were 11 lead changes and eight ties in the game.
Next up, Webber will play on the road in TSC action for the first time this season as the Warriors travel to Miami Gardens, Florida, to take on St. Thomas University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 23. The Bobcats are currently receiving votes in the NAIA Division-II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll, as they were last season on February 9 when the Warriors came away with a dominating 88-69 win at home.
