BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 25, 2019) – After a scrimmage at NCAA Division-II Saint Leo University at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, the Webber International University women's basketball team is set to officially begin its new 2019-20 season on the road in Mississippi on Monday, October 28, before heading to Alabama for another road game two days later.

The Warriors' season opener at Tougaloo College (Miss.) will be played at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time / 6 p.m. Central Standard Time on Monday, October 28. After that, the Warriors will head to Talladega, Alabama, to take on Talladega College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30.

Webber will then take on the challenge of its only exhibition game of the 2019-20 season, which will come on Thursday, November 7, at 7 p.m. against a tough NCAA Division-I Florida Gulf Coast University team in Fort Myers, Florida.

The 2019-20 home opener for the Warriors will come on Saturday, November 9, as Webber hosts Florida College at 5:30 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. It will be the start of a four-game home stand for Webber as the Warriors then host Trinity College (Fla.) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, and open up Sun Conference play against Keiser University at 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, before wrapping up the home stand against Florida Memorial University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 21.

It will be the ninth season for the Warriors under Head Coach Grady Morrell, who last led Webber to the postseason in 2015-16 after reaching The Sun Conference Tournament championship game for the fourth year in a row. The Warriors previously won the TSC Tournament under Morrell back during the 2012-13 campaign while the team's best record during the Morrell era came in 2014-15 with a record of 22-7.

The Warriors' women's basketball team finished its 2018-19 campaign 10-16 overall and 5-13 in The Sun Conference. Webber was most recently picked ninth out of 10 teams in the 2019-20 Sun Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Coach Morrell said, "We have a very challenging schedule that should allow us to see if we can peak at the right time and make a run for the conference despite what our preseason ranking states. Our four seniors are showing great leadership on and off the court right now."

Looking to take leadership of the squad in 2019-20 will be sophomore forward Taniya Patrick, who was named TSC Freshman of the Year and second-team all-conference after averaging 12.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game a year ago, junior guard Paris Copeland (14.3 ppg, 7.1 rpg), senior forward Dysheka Price (4.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg) and fellow-senior forward Emmarrie Carmen (5.6 ppg, 4.9 rbg).

Top newcomers this season include sophomore Amaya Lasley from the University of Tampa, junior Zariyah Daniels from Miami Dade College and freshman Samantha Pacheco from the highly regarded Montverde Academy.
