HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (October 19, 2019) – The Webber International University men's and women's cross country teams concluded their respective 2019 regular seasons by competing in the 13th annual University of South Carolina Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday morning. The highlight of the day for the Warriors came from junior Kendal Clark, who had a huge personal record in the women's 5k race and finished top-15.

This year's Sand Shark Invitational, which had 25 schools participating, including eight Sun Conference members and three NCAA Division-I schools, was held at the Hardeeville School Complex. The course ran through the Jasper Park and Cooler property. The course, which has been host to four previous Sun Conference Championship meets, will again play host for this season's league championship meet in 2019.

The best individual finish on the day for Webber came from Clark, who finished the women's 5k race in 19:00.5, good for a new career-fastest time and also good for a very impressive 13th-place finish out of 150 total runners on the women's side.

"Simply put, Kendal Clark ran lights out today," spoke Webber's Head Cross Country Coach James Simpson. "Overall, today was a good day for the men and women's cross country teams. With us traveling only a few runners this weekend, the lone female for our Warriors turned in the fastest time of her college career running 19:00.5, which puts her second on the top-10 all-time Webber women's cross country list. Kendal Clark is proof that hard work pays off, especially summer work. I'm very proud of her progression, and I am so happy for her. "

In the men's 8k race, all three Warriors in action put together top-90 finishes out of 139 total men's runners.

The Webber men were led once again by sophomore Travis Holton in 69th place with a time of 29:30.0.

Not far behind Holton was freshman Dustin White, who made his collegiate debut with a time of 29:56.6, which was less than 30 seconds behind Holton and was good for a respectable finish of 78th place.

The final competitor on the men's side for Webber was senior Isaiah Cameron, who ran a career-best time of 30:19.5 to finish in 88th place, only 10 spots behind White and only 19 behind Holton.

Simpson added, "On the men's side, we traveled three with our top male, Travis Holton, running 29:30. Dustin White ran a personal record of 29:56 and Isaiah Cameron ran a personal record as well of 30:19. The men were tightly grouped throughout the race, which is what the pre-race goal was - to run as a pack. Overall, it was just a good weekend with times improving, which shows that the athletes are continuing to work hard. We look forward to coming back to South Carolina in two weeks for the conference championship meet."

The 2019 Sun Conference Cross Country Championships will be held on the morning of Saturday, November 9, at the very same Hardeeville School Complex as this year's Sand Shark Invitational.
