Undefeated men’s soccer keeps the wins coming against Trinity Baptist

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 8, 2018) – Forward Baxter Smith scored twice in the first half to lead the Webber International University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Trinity Baptist College on Saturday.

It was the fifth goal in four matches for Smith, a graduate student from Stowmarket, England, who has now scored in each of the four matches to start his Warrior career.

Assisting Smith were teammates Ervin Ikanovic with the first goal and Mateo Sassoni with the second.

Head Coach Neil Cockburn said, "The boys played some of their best football this weekend. They got a little too complacent at the end, but they pulled through for the win."

Webber improved its record to 3-0-1 overall while Trinity Baptist fell to 0-5-1 with losses to Keiser, Ave Maria, and Warner and a 5-5 tie against Florida College on its resume so far. Last season, the Warriors defeated the Eagles by a final score of 5-2.

In one week, the Warriors' first stretch of road matches will continue as Webber travels across Crooked Lake to battle rival Warner University at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, in Lake Wales, Florida. It will be the first leg of the Crooked Cup Rivalry between the two teams during the 2018-19 athletics season.
